From 1879 to 1916 Indian were brought from India as indentured laborers to work on the sugar plantations. After the indentured system was abolished, many stayed on as independent farmers and businessmen. Today they comprise 44 percent of the population.
Kinoya Assembly of God was established in 1966 and will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in July.
